Dil - Author / Creator & CEO

I have been intrigued by manga and anime for almost 10 years and have been captivated by this art form since. This art style has inspired me to firstly begin writing my own stories and creating original character designs. In 2006 I set up Dimensional Manga, a new publishing house. The aim of this was to promote manga in the west and to release an original unique story that would entertain the masses. To do this we needed to employ professional manga artists from all over the world including Canada, Malaysia, Philippines and UK. Our main artist, Philip Knot, resides in Birmingham, UK. Manga (and the comic format) is a unique way to express ideas. I have always preferred this medium over conventional books/novels because of the combination of visuals and written text. I chose manga (as opposed to other comic formats) because it appeared that by using this style I was able to express my ideas more effectively.

I have now created our first title, Demon Prince: Children of Gaia. Other titles dues to be launched by Dimensional Manga in 2009 include (Feature manga range) Hero Complex, Awakened Soul, Vampires/Samurai; Separation of Deception, Pwanda, Shadow Suit: Holographic Frequency, Dismantled Future and Winning Tactics F.C. I am responsible for writing the stories, developing/creating the character designs, the script, co-ordinating the story board and instructing our artists on how to create each frame. The goal was to create, not borrow, change or visually alter established concepts, but to make a fresh start. My ultimate aim is to show that there are always new possibilities still available, no matter what achievements have been accomplished. The other concept which I wanted to demonstrate was what I call ‘layer shifting’. Everybody knows what ‘twists’ are and as a result, twists have become very predictable. ’Layer shifting’, I have never seen demonstrated in the west or the east, in any medium, be it books or film! This is something best experienced as opposed to explained here, hence our sub heading ‘STORIES MEANT TO BE EXPERIENCED’. Expect to find this and many other new things in all of our titles, especially our ‘Feature Manga’ range. I hope my message will inspire others to do the same and beyond.

We also asked some questions about what they have planned for the future.

Philip Knott - Chief Artist

I am from Birmingham, UK. I have read and drawn manga for almost all my life and began to draw ever since childhood. I have always had a passion for art and manga grabbed my attention instantly. Over the years my love for manga has grown and grown which has led me to pursue a career as a Professional Manga Artist. Although I am largely self taught, I have obtained professional qualifications in Animation and graduated from Wolverhampton University, UK in 2004. I joined Dimensional Manga in 2006 during which I have developed immensely as an artist. My duties involve storyboarding with the author, pencil work, inking (Volume 1), toning and colour work (cover for Demon Prince: Children of Gaia). I am the Chief Artist and I am responsible for overseeing visual aspects of the art work. All work is closely co-ordinate by Dil, the author of Demon Prince: Children of Gaia. Dil explains the appearance of characters, important angles for certain scenes and atmosphere which need to be portrayed within the comic. I continually contribute my own ideas to the visual aspect, especially from an artistic angle. In my spare time, I work on creating my own art work, which is predominantly manga, a style I have developed a deep connection with.

Ng Keng Yeow - Chief Ink Artist

am from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I have been working as an artist for 10 years. My work as a manga artist has enabled me to do script, concept art, character and background design, storytelling & story boarding and 3d animation tvc (2006-2007). As a professional artist I have worked on numerous comics under publisher such as, Gempak, Asiapac Singapore and Singapore Media Corporation. In this time I have released over 20 comic books in Singapore, Malaysia, China & Taiwan. With Singapore Media Corporation the comic book I am not Stupid (1-3rd edition) was released. I also created GongFu King which has seen 1-6 editions published in China. While working for Dimensional Manga, I am the Chief Ink Artist for Demon Prince: Children of Gaia. I am passionate about art and manga is an art style that has captured my imagination. I feel that manga has inspired me to work harder as an artist and as a result I have developed a special love for this style of art.
